I was astonished to read that there are an estimated 21 million faulty cars currently being driven on the roads in the UK.

The research also showed that when the faults are eventually sorted it is costing drivers an average of £574 a year. The research was carried out by Green Flag and highlighted a problem where drivers tend to ignore an ongoing problem with their vehicle.

That average cost of £574 a year equates to a national average of £21.5 billion, by the way. However, the research indicated that these costs could have been reduced by 47% if the issues had been addressed earlier.

It seems that every county in the UK is vying for the claim that they have the most potholes. While I can’t declare a winner, I can confirm that hitting a pothole while driving is a modern hazard that has increased greatly in the last few years.

Even if you are travelling at a relatively low speed, hitting a pothole can damage your tyres, wheels and steering alignment. At high speed you risk a lot more damage and possibly losing control of the vehicle resulting in a crash.

I am very pleased to announce that Crightons & Cartell have been chosen as one of the participating garages in 2018’s AutoCare Car Giveaway which means that you have the chance to win a brand new car or one of a selection of 55 fabulous runners up prizes.

There has been plenty of coverage of Prince Harry recently and his engagement to Meghan Markle and it brought to mind a wonderful occasion last year when I met his brother, Prince William.

I have to admit I had been totally taken aback when I learned that I was to be awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for service to sport in Peterborough over the years.

I received a letter from the Prime Minister asking me if I would accept the award and of course I said yes without hesitation.  I consider it a great honour to be asked and it would have been rude to everyone who had nominated me to turn it down.
